Ubisoft Not Afraid to Delay Assassins Creed

For what seems like several months now, Ubisoft has been tiptoeing around their forthcoming last-gen release for Assassin's Creed without actually announcing anything. We've heard rumors that they were slated to announce the game, potentially titled Assassin's Creed Comet, at everything from E3 2014 to Comic-Con, but thus far Ubiosft has kept quiet.

Today, however, a new rumor has surfaced that suggests the game's title is not Comet but is, in fact, Assassin's Creed Rogue. This is according to a recent retail listing on World of Games.

While the Assassin's Creed Rogue listing has since been taken down, and removed from Google Cache, we do have a screenshot of it below. Unfortunately, the box art included with the listing is just a placeholder image.

Although Ubiosft has yet to announce anything official, the Rogue subtitle does fall in line with this latest chapter in the Assassin's Creed franchise. Where Assassin's Creed Unity is about bringing an assassin brotherhood together, in 4-player co-op, Rogue could focus on an assassin flying solo. That's pure speculation on our part, but personally the Rogue subtitle sounds better than Comet.

As far as what AC Rogue or Comet might be about, everything is up in the air. There are rumors that the game could work as a cross between AC 3 and Black Flag, with players charting the Atlantic Ocean circa 1750, but, again, Ubisoft is keeping quiet.

The only thing that's clear at this point is that the clock is ticking, and every month that goes by where Ubisoft doesn't offer up any information regarding this last-gen AC game draws even more suspicion. At this point, we're beginning to wonder if the game is even slated to release this year. Gamescom is right around the corner, though, so perhaps Ubisoft will blow the lid off this mysterious game and finally put to rest all the rumors and speculation.

Which title do you like better: Comet or Rogue? What time period and setting would you like to see this last-gen Assassin's Creed use?
