‘AC: Brotherhood’ Beta For Select PlayStation Plus Members

Assassin's Creed Multiplayer Demo for Select PlayStation Plus Members

Subscribers to Sony’s still-fresh PlayStation Plus service are getting a fresh batch of upcoming exclusives, and the Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood beta is one of them. However, it turns out that not every PlayStation Plus subscriber will be in on it.

The beta has been pushed back for an October release, and a post on the official PlayStation Blog reads as follows:

“Select PlayStation Plus members will get their hands on the first-ever multiplayer modes of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.”

While the PlayStation Plus service never advertised that inclusion into betas was guaranteed for all of its members, you have to think that those paying for the service would really be hoping to get into betas like this one.

The beta itself is looking to be a hot commodity, based on the trailers we’ve seen, with multiplayer action that looks like it’s going to a unique, genuinely fun experience. The fact is simply that the beta looks good, but people with a chance to access it may see that access as a right, rather than a privilege. I’m not sure the Plus subscribers who don’t make the cut will be very happy.

However, those left out of the beta should know that being a paid Plus subscriber isn’t the only way to get in. Anyone who pre-orders the game at GameStop is guaranteed a beta experience – no Plus subscription required.

Of course, there are other benefits to being a PlayStation Plus subscriber. For instance, Sony announced that a Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light (which we reviewed for you) demo will be arriving via automatic download, along with the Alien Breed: Impact demo, which features an exclusive 25% discount for subscribers who wish to purchase the game.

At the end of the day, though, if I were a Plus subscriber and still didn’t get access to the Brotherhood beta, I’d be a little miffed. What about you, Ranters? What do you think of the limited beta release, or the service in general? We love to hear your thoughts.

  1. Yeah, I would be irked if I were a + member and did not get into this beta. I wonder if more of these types of things will pop up for + people. It seems like you are paying for a chance to get something. The more I look at it, the more I do not think + is a good deal, at least for me.

  2. I haven’t been pleased with plus so far myself and I bought into it on day one. If the beta’s are all going to be limited, that’s not giving me much of an incentive to renew either.

  3. It doesn’t make sense to make your service exclusive and then allow someone to make that service even more exclusive. Beta for all plus members is how it should go.

  4. I’m most interested in the single player so thankfully this doesn’t bum me out that much. But man I can’t believe that, I would be furious if I were paying for plus and didn’t get this.
