Assassins Creed 4 Jackdaw Edition Announced

Let's face it: Assassin's Creed 3, for as much as the game was a leap forward for the franchise in terms of its graphics engine, fluidity of movement/combat, and storytelling, was a pretty big disappointment. It was a sore spot on a franchise that was depending on its latest entry (at the time) to rejuvenate things — to prove that the creation of Ezio wasn't just a flash in the pan. Unfortunately, it wasn't.

But, as it turns out, there was still an awesome Assassin's Creed leading man and an equally as great Assassin's title in our future. We speak, of course, of Edward Kenway and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, a title that will soon be getting the Game of the Year treatment thanks to Ubisoft.

Dubbed the 'Jackdaw Edition,' this Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag special edition will include all the requisite bells and whistles that gamers expect. That means the full single player and multiplayer experiences of the main game, as well as all Season Pass content. The Jackdaw Edition will launch on March 28th in the UK, and we presume it will also hit North America on or before that date.

Like many Assassin's Creeds before it, Black Flag featured a bevy of content both on the single player and the multiplayer side of things. There were customization packs out the wazoo, as well as a few retailer-specific missions that went around. All of that will be packaged in with the Jackdaw Edition.

The real prize of the Jackdaw Edition, though, is the Freedom Cry story DLC, which, in addition to being a fantastic piece of post-release DLC, is actually one of the better things put out over the AC franchise's entire history. For those that don't know, Freedom Cry puts players in control of Edward Kenway's first mate, Adewale, who is trying to unite his own merry band of assassins. We can't recommend the DLC enough - same goes for the entirety of Assassin's Creed 4 - so if you haven't played the game there's no better time than later this month.

Will you be picking up the Jackdaw Edition of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag? Were you hoping for more post-release content from Ubisoft before they finalized a Game of the Year edition?
