‘Assassin’s Creed 3′ Features More Desmond Than Any Other ‘AC’ Title

Desmond Getting More Story in Assassin's Creed 3

While all eyes will be on Assassin’s Creed 3‘s new protagonist Connor, Ubisoft wants to fans to rest assured that the other part of the AC equation isn’t being left out. In fact, as revealed by writer Matt Turner, Desmond Miles will be receiving the most game and story time of any Assassin’s Creed installment yet.

Considering Ubisoft had revealed that the next Assassin’s Creed, which would coincide with some in-game event taking place in 2012, would be the final game for long time Animus user Desmond it makes sense that he would be getting a good chunk of story this time around. Last year’s iteration, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, featured Desmond in some pretty unique gameplay, but ultimately that wasn’t what fans were looking for.

Instead, as Turner explains, Ubisoft is putting a lot of focus on developing the present day locations in Assassin’s Creed 3. There were brief teases of some Desmond free-climbing sequences in the past Assassin’s Creed games, most notably Brotherhood, but nothing has come close to what Ezio or Altair were able to do.

“All I can say about Desmond’s story is you’re going to experience more Desmond than you’ve ever had before. We’re spending more time on the present than we have in past games…It’s a big part of our story and I don’t really want to give too many details away because I want people to experience what that is. But rest assured, you’re going to see a lot of Desmond. More so than in any past game.”

It feels fitting that as gamers are introduced to a new character and a new setting in Assassin’s Creed 3 that one part of the long running franchise would be getting a proper send off. Desmond had long been considered an integral piece to every AC iteration, but apparently that is not the case.

Whatever Ubisoft chooses to do with Desmond Miles, whether they do deliver on the apocalyptic predictions of the series’ storyline or not, we hope that fans aren’t left with some unanswered questions.

How would you like to see Ubisoft conclude the story of Desmond Miles in Assassin’s Creed 3? Should his gameplay, if there is any, be more of the first person sequences or something closer to Brotherhood’s free-running?

Assassin’s Creed 3 releases October 30, 2012 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

I want to see is desmond change his DAM CLOTHS! I mean COME ON, he been wearing the same cloths since ACB, can he wear something other then white?! @_@

    • Neraven

Actually yeah, I hadn’t thought of that but it sounds very good to me. God those clothes have got to be dirty xD

      • Spider-Abu

Actually…his clothes do change in ACB and ACR. He gets a new hoodie in ACB, and in ACR he gets a new black hoodie plus a new bag. And anyway, the event of the game since AC1 till ACR so far has only been a few weeks, and clothes changing could have been done in the background. 😛 Though I do want one thing for his clothes, to have a few different outfits, varied from time to time in the game…and as for the gameplay..I expected full on city or sandboxed area to be able to free fun all I want…but I guess as long as we get like atleast an HOUR of gameplay with Desomnd, free-running and assassinating and whatnot…we’ll be fine. 😛

I always thought you ACIII will be only Desmond’s game only where we can free roam as him but looks like UBI felt to make his character likable to haters I will like he is side hero character I hope there will be city to roam.

          • Spider-Abu

omg, LOL, I thought exactly that too! Thought of having huge modern cities to freeroam through, driving vehicles and going through a few cities and whatnot, just openworld Desmond game basically…but oh well, I think it would’ve been wayy too hard to pull that off, so they came up with this amazing game instead, still just as epic. 😀

  • Neraven

FREE RUNNING PLEASE. The first person sequences were nice, but I want to see Desmond being awesome in his own body for once lol

  • TaboriHK

No one cares about Desmond, Ubisoft.

    • dan

Sure they do. Desmond’s the only medium we have for the 2012 gimmick in the franchise.

      • TaboriHK

The irony is I don’t even care if the AC world blows up. All the most interesting characters are already long-dead anyway.

ugh. the part of the series I’ve always hated was that Desmond crap. I don’t think they should have him in it at all. All the sequences he was in in the first and second game made me get bored and stop playing it. sure, it is about him, but, I could not care less. they can use him in purely movie sequences and it might be a bit more enjoyable. but to be rid of him all together would be the best. Also a WWII era game would be the obvious perfect next step after 3.

      another call of duty then?

Anything featuring contemporary technology should have gameplay akin to Deus Ex I think. I mean, it’s just not feasible to expect hidden blade assassinations without some stealth play in that situation. I don’t think WW2 templars will restrict themselves to nightsticks like Abstergo does…

    Free running I love Desmond

i dont see why not, the Assassin’s storylines may have more impact on the actual storyline of the series, but Desmond’s may have an impact on how the whole thing ends, whether the world ends or not, he’s the Sora of the Assassin’s Creed games (basically in the KH series, Ven, Aqua and Terra cant do anything as of Coded but Sora can and in AC, the assassins cant do anything but Desmond CAN see the similarities in the scenario?)

  • jsmflaco

What they need to do is what everyone has been waiting for. Desmond kicking some templar ass in his own body. Finally put the bleeding effect to good use. Maybe even an awesome chase after warren vidic. 😀

  • The Effect

It’s about time. I’ve been playing the whole series for Desmond’s story. No, I’m not kidding. I literally would’ve completely ignored yet-another-historical-killing-game such as Assassin’s Creed if they hadn’t come up with this. Altair and Ezio are amazing, but it’s been looooooong time for Desmond.

  • The Effect

    About damn time!

If Ubisoft doesn’t deliver the epic finale that we’ve been anticipating (Desmond saving the earth from destruction), my patients with the AC series will be over. On one side you have Turner saying that Desmond will play a key role and on the other side you have Hutchinson saying Desmond is holding the series back. I didn’t go through 5 years of cliffhangers for some cheap, we-only-added-it-because-we-had-to ending for Desmond.

Desmond is a complete hit or miss. You either love him or you hate him. I love the whole modern day crew (particularly Rebecca; I think she’s awesome), and I can’t wait to see what Ubisoft has in store for them in ACIII, but whatever happens, it better have been worth the four games leading up to it.

    I hate desmond
