Some new screenshots for two of Ubisoft's highly anticipated fall titles — Assassin's Creed 3 and Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation — have made their way online to showcase the unique gameplay experiences present in the major console and Vita releases. While Assassin's Creed 3 focuses on the core storyline of Desmond and his distant ancestor Connor, Liberation is a completely independent storyline — told through the eyes of a new assassin named Aveline — but the two games will apparently have some overlap.

For Assassin's Creed 3 the screenshots showcase a lot of unique landscapes, from a colonial town to a shipwreck-filled harbor. Needless to say, Ubisoft is pulling out all the stops (visually) for this next Assassin's Creed adventure.

There are even brief looks at Assassin's Creed 3's new brand of combat, which focuses on smoother animations and quick, on-the-fly kills. And if there was any question that Connor's arsenal of weapons and "gadgets" was not going to be as diverse as Ezio's, the shot of the barbed whip should certainly hush detractors.

On the Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation side of things it’s a tale of two cities (literally) as players will explore "The Bayou" of New Orleans with Aveline. A brief synopsis for the game made a promise there would be alligators, and one of the screens definitely delivers on that promise. While the alligator encounter could easily be a simple quick-time event, it's a pretty unique event to see in a video game.

But of course, the most intriguing screenshot from the bunch is the one of Connor and Aveline in the midst of battle. Ever since Liberation was announced for the PS Vita during Sony's E3 2012 press conference there was the hope that the two games would have some crossover, and this screen all but confirms it. How much "teaming up" there will be is unknown, but the hint of even the tiniest bit of crossover could help sell some Liberation Vita bundles.

Which game are you more excited for: Assassin's Creed 3 or Liberation? How would you like to see the two games' protagonists cross paths?

Assassin's Creed 3 releases October 30th for PS3 and Xbox 360, November 20th for PC, and November 18th for Wii U. Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation is out October 30, 2012 for the PlayStation Vita.
