  1. im sure going to miss resistance that sucks just when i got attached to the game they shut down the series

  2. I stopped reading at “Kingdoms’ combat seems a lot more fun and engaging than Skyrim’s” yes because button smashing is so engaging and fun…

    • its not like skyrim’s trash lag combat is any different genius, amalur has more depth in the sense that you can chain combos with any weapon you have equipped, if you actually bothered playing the damn game with an open mind you would of realised this and not embarrassed your sheepish mind.

i really feel sorry for skyrim fanbirls b/c they’re limiting themselves to one terrible game, i bet you downers haven’t even bothered with the witcher 2 b/c combat is to ‘strategic and realistic’ am i right ?

      • I don’t play Skyrim, but I do play The Witcher 1/2 and Dragon Age: Origins, so I know what a tactical RPG feels like. I didn’t praise Skyrims combat (common what’s there to praise?) nor did I insult or demean anyone in my comment…something you cannot say jwalka.

        • i was talking about you bashing on amalurs combat, and i didn’t directly insult you, just the skyrim fangirls and those that cbf learning a new games mechanics.

          • Yes “its not like skyrim’s trash lag combat is any different genius” while not a direct insult glaringly alludes to what you believe is my diminished thinking capacity. But this “if you actually bothered playing the damn game with an open mind you would of realised this and not embarrassed your sheepish mind” is a direct insult, again going after my intelligence. I played the demo three times, to the fully allotted time, which gives me all the info I need to know about it.

I might have been less than generous with Kingdoms’ combat (I blame my own hopes that a game made by R.A. Salvatore, Todd McFarlane, and the lead from Morrowind would blow my mind) than I could have been, but when it comes to a 60$ game (product) I don’t like fluff or exaggerations about the product. I want the facts, and the combat in “amalur has more depth in the sense that you can chain combos with any weapon you have equipped” doesn’t equal depth or tactical to me. And that is nothing new added to the RPG genre.

Baldur’s Gate 1/2, Icewind Dale 1/2, Dragon Age: Origins/Awakening, Fallout 1/2, and Planescape: Torment all had far and away more tactical depth than this game. But I do want to hear more about the lore, R. A. Salvatore seems to being pulling out his A game here.

I also do not discourage people from sticking with name brands that they like. Whenever Tim Burton has a movie coming out I go see it, why? Because I’m a Tim Burton fan that’s why. I see it as the same for games, music and books as well. I used to buy every BioWare game the day they came out then I got Dragon Age 2 from Gamestop…those day’s with BioWare are now over.

There should be a group maybe called “Gamers Against Bad Controls” or GABC.

  3. Whoa, I missed those Assassin’s Creed articles. Pretty cool stuff!

  4. he didnt directly take the piss out of bethesdas garbage bin, he was just saying that the combat is BETTER, which is a fact not opinion if you have played the demo long enough to be able to explore the forest and get more weapons to play with. people saying amalur is garbage obviously haven’t researched the game deeply enough to know that IT IS PRETTY MUCH LIKE SKYRIM MINUS THE BUGS/GLITCHES, you can explore massive areas, find hidden dungeons and quests, steal, pickpocket, craft, make shallow and pointless decisions that don’t effect anything, customise etc etc.

gamers are yet to prove to me that they know wtf they’re talking about half the time, it seems that all you people do is pick a franchise and stick with it for life, which imo is really sad b/c you close your eyes to amazing games (its why indie dev’s making games similar to diablo don’t make alot of cash).

  5. @ Cariannis
my bad then (on insulting you) i tend to go over board with my points at times. i sort of see your point, but the thing is they aren’t trying to make their game tactical, they’ve just made the combat more fluent and faster in pace which is the opposite of skyrim’s old school and boring hack and slash fest. that’s what i think they’re trying to say in these interviews – that their game is a prettier version of bethesda’s with the addition of fun and fluent combat.
if you watch their dev diaries then you would know what to expect from alaur, hence why i’m really excited for its release then i am of most games coming out.

  6. The sword fighting in Skyrim is actually quite realistic if done properly. It may not be fast and pretty, and there aren’t really any combos, but real sword fighting isn’t like that. It’s methodical thrust, slash, and parry. Of course in Skyrim you can also just hack and slash until you’re enemy is dead but that’s up to the skill of the player, not the capabilities of the game.

Having said that, I’m looking forward to getting into Kingdoms of Amalur and will enjoy it’s different but no less fun combat system. I don’t think I’ll like it more than Skyrims, but just because it’s not my favourite, doesn’t mean it can’t still be awesome.

    • thumbs up for your last paragraph. i just hate it when people completely turn down a game b/c its different the the things they usually play. it only not discourages dev’s to be creative and different but it hurts those of us that like change (due to the aforementioned reason).

i didn’t really find there to be any depth in skyrim’s redundant combat, it literally came down to: attack until health goes low, run away and heal with potions of spells, go back and kill enemy. as for bosses pre-patch required you to exploit geometry so you wouldn’t get one hit killed (asi did in alot of my encounters). i would have cut them some slack had they evolved their game, but all they’ve done is add stuff from previous entries and claim it to be a new and innovative game made via a new engine (which it isn’t otherwise it would be a step up from their previous games).
