Second Assassin's Creed 3 Image Leaks

[Update: The first Assassin's Creed 3 screenshots have leaked!]

When an image purported to be promotional art for the next entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, rumored to be simply titled Assassin’s Creed 3, leaked online it seemed too good to be true. Not only had we successfully hypothesized that Ubisoft might be taking their assassin franchise to the time period of the American Revolution, but the image itself, which featured a new assassin sporting some Native American weaponry, was downright awesome.

All of the pieces that fans had hoped would fall into place were correctly aligning, but there still remained a nagging feeling that the image was a fake — a very good Photoshop job, but a fake nonetheless. While that still may be the case, yet another 18th Century Assassin’s Creed 3 image has appeared, and it too puts more weight to this rumor.

Seen in this second image, which was believed to have been leaked by Game Informer but has since been taken down, the new protagonist is seen brandishing a bow and arrow, as well as guiding George Washington in his famous crossing of the Delaware. The first part of the image, the assassin posing, seems legitimate, but the other feels like a poorly Photoshopped combination of Assassin’s Creed art and Leutze’s painting.

Judge for yourself:

Its feels strange speculating on the setting and story for Assassin’s Creed 3, especially since we are mere hours away from an official announcement from Ubisoft, but typically zero hour is the key moment when big news leaks. If this rumor does prove to be true, and Assassin’s Creed 3 will not only be set during the American Revolution but will feature some of America’s founding fathers in key roles (much like Da Vinci’s relationship with Ezio) it makes the franchise’s forthcoming entry even more exciting than we ever thought possible.

There are, of course, plenty of other enterprising time periods that the franchise can visit. And it may feel like Ubisoft is missing out on them by jumping so far forward, but by the time the game releases all those thoughts will be a distant memory. Bring on Assassin’s Creed 3, and bring on a new era no matter what it is.

Are you sold on Assassin’s Creed 3 being set during the American Revolution? What other prominent historical figures would you like to see this new protagonist interact with?

  1. I did hear that Ubisoft were doing a big AC announcement this week… Maybe this was aprt of it and they leaked it earlyt o start building anticipation. Which they have succeeded in doing.

  2. Other than Mass Effect 3 i hadn’t been more excited. Unless Valve announces Portal 3, then we would have to think about it.

  3. I enjoyed Assassin’s Creed 2 because it was set in late 15th Century Italy. That time frame is far more interesting to me. Don’t get me wrong it’s not that AC couldn’t put an awesome spin on the events of the American Revolution, it just doesn’t interest me as much. I knew Ezio couldn’t be the protagonist forever, everything moves on, but I’m probably not going to play AC 3 as soon as it comes out.

    • Considering where Revelations left off and what we know, the American Revolution seems like a logical fit. If its in China or Japan, IMO it would make little sense.

      • Despite the fact that Embers had a Chinese assassin?….

        • yeah me and a coworker were actually talking about it last night. Embers had a Chinese assassin but to us it just meant that there were more brotherhoods out there that had the same code. What we got was that ezio was a legend to her and nothing more.

But I’m excited for this game just hope to god there is more Desmond time to actually assassinate people. I’ve been playing four games hoping to have a turn with Desmond in a real mission. Hope this one delivers that.

American revolution sounds cool just was also hoping for a London game maybe next time after Desmond’s story wraps. He’s not English so Britain wouldn’t make sense.

  4. The AC Facebook just released the image from the 360 ps3 and pc boxes

  5. Awesome….revelations and brotherhood were ok but felt boring…this definetly has my interest raised for the franchise again

    • Yeah, maybe because Revelations didn’t tell us anything and now they come out with DLC which explains stuff, but wasn’t a part of the actual game. That, and Desmond’s missions didn’t matter in the overall sense. You don’t have to do them. Oh, and Rev had no sidemissions for Ezio alone.

  6. As long as the annoying accent is gone I may play it. After AC2, never touched another ubisoft game. That voice annoyed me that much.

    • You mean you didn’t like it after Ezio helps his mother and sister escape from Florence and they had to fight for their lives and his uncle says, “Its a’me Mario!”

      • LOL…that must’ve been the most horrible excuse to not play the AC series..wow, you deserve an award, HONEST!! xDD

  8. Hey this is official, they just released the box cover to this game http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2012/03/01/assassin-creed-3s-american-revolution-setting-revealed/2/ pretty bad ass

  9. after seeing the image of Washington and the assassin together, doesn’t it remind anyone else of one of the subject 16 challenges from either AC:2 or AC:B? I cant remember which one exactly, but there was a challenge that required you to spot the assassin in each picture, and that picture with Washington was one of them. They took a hint of AC:3 and threw it right in our faces…

  10. I don’t get why people wan’t to play as Desmond so badly, he’s the least interresting characther.. An quite franckly its boring bringing theAC series into this era as it’s all all high tech. Whats good with the AC series is the ancestors, as they are in a time where things are alittle more hand to hand. I think AC will loose alot of interrest if it will become about the present day with Desmond. then it’ll just be like any other assassin game out there.
