Assassin's Creed 3 Announcement

[Update: Potential (and revealing) Assassin's Creed 3 art may have leaked early!]

It's been nearly two weeks since we first heard official confirmation that the next battle between the Assassins and Templars, Assassin's Creed 3 would be released on October 30, 2012. Considering the game was only announced (officially) in February, it's hard to imagine that the title is only eight months away from release; however, as a result, expect news on the next animus adventure with Desmond Miles to come fast and furious throughout the year - starting as soon as tomorrow, March 1st.

While Ubisoft is teasing a "major" Assassin's Creed announcement for tomorrow, it's unclear whether or not the reveal will actually be Assassin's Creed 3-related. That said, with no other confirmed projects in development, and a fast approaching release date for the next installment, it's hard to imagine what else the publisher could announce. Especially given the apparent reveal of a Native American assassin.

The "teaser" news was posted earlier today in a simple update to the official Assassin's Creed Facebook page - and has already gathered over 1,300 "Likes" as well as 200 comments.

Here's the official posting:

A major announcement from Assassin’s Creed is only days away. Tune in to http://www.assassinscreed.com/ tomorrow for more details.

Visiting the link at this time takes players to a video of the recently unveiled Assassin's Creed: Revelations DLC "The Lost Archive." "The Lost Archive," snuck onto digital stores yesterday without much fanfare - hopefully the March 1st announcement is a little more intriguing.

In case you're a little behind on Assassin's Creed news, it's worth mentioned that "Lost Archive" pack costs $9.99 (800 MSP) and allows players to "Explore the mysterious pasts of Subject 16 and Lucy Stillman in 2 hours of all-new singleplayer content using the innovative narration style and puzzle-platforming gameplay pioneered in Assassin’s Creed Revelations’ present-day Desmond sequences. Also included in this pack are a bonus singleplayer mission which unlocks the terrifying Vlad the Impaler Sword, a variety of armors and weapons for Ezio and three new multiplayer characters." We thoroughly enjoyed those puzzle-platforming sections of the game as detailed in our Assassin's Creed: Revelations review - so "The Lost Archive" pack might be a good way to waste time ahead of tomorrow's news.

Assassin's Creed 3 - American Revolution Story

However, as for that "major" announcement, it's hard to know exactly what to expect - though our money is on a reveal of the new Assassin character (since Revelations marked the last Ezio and Altaïr chapters) as well as where and when the next installment will take place. Will players head to China (as indicated by the Assassin's Creed Embers animated film), Japan (teased in an Ubisoft R&D survey), or the American Revolution (as was asserted by recent internal sources)? Of course, it's certainly possible that Ubisoft has selected an entirely different locale to feature.

The posting doesn't offer a specific time for the announcement but news like this does tend to break early in the day - so that publishers can get the most bang for their marketing buck.

As a result, check back here at Game Rant tomorrow morning for coverage of the "major" announcement. In the mean time, have a look at our Assassin's Creed 3 wish list - detailing some of the features we'd like to see.

Assassin’s Creed 3 will release October 30th 2012 for PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and (possibly) Wii U.
