Confirmed via an investor call with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot today is the news that a new Assassin’s Creed title is in development and is set for release some time in 2011. Though Ubisoft has been very forthcoming with their feelings towards the franchise — saying they hope to release AC titles as frequently as possible — most gamers didn’t expect to see them crank another one out quite so fast.

While the call did confirm the existence of a new Assassin’s Creed title, it did not address the setting for the game, only stating that more details will be revealed in May. After Brotherhood ventured, once again, into the world of 15th Century Italy, the world of Assassin’s Creed was completely tipped on its heads.

No longer were players stuck to the belief that each new title would feature a new time period, nor would the game be strictly a single player experience. Instead, players have since learned to expect the unexpected when it comes to the popular franchise. Game Rant even took to the speculation, imagining what an Assassin’s Creed 3 might look like.

On top of the announcement that a new title would be releasing this year, Guillemot did confirm that Ubisoft has something cooking in the oven for 2012 as well. Though he didn’t say it directly, he did indicate that there would be something that relates to Assassin’s announced.

Having already proved that the Assassin’s Creed franchise is not adverse to mobile or handheld iterations, perhaps this May will see the release of a Nintendo 3DS title. As the hot new console for 2011, it would behoove Ubisoft to, at some point, release an Assassin’s Creed for the platform.

Speculation is sure to run rampant as to what this Assassin’s Creed title could be, but with more news to hit in May — coincidentally the month before E3 takes place — players can expect a big presentation from Ubisoft. As always, stay tuned to Game Rant for any news regarding this next iteration in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

What type of Assassin’s Creed title would you hope to see release this year: a 3Ds title or Assassin’s Creed 3? Where and when would you like to see the next entry in the franchise take place?
