Up until fairly recently, many Animal Crossing: New Horizons players needed to carry a ladder around with them in order to reach every part of their island. This all changed, however, with the game's 2.0 update and the introduction of the Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit. Now, players can simply place a ladder next to any cliff on their island, which can not only save on players' precious inventory space, but also their precious time.

Prior to the game's 2.0 update, players needed to pull out their ladder each and every time they wished to scale an incline. Granted, it was and still is possible to build a staircase, though these require time and space to set up, cannot be moved after they've been built, and can be fairly expensive to boot. The Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit, on the other hand, offers a cheap, simple, and aesthetically pleasing solution for Animal Crossing: New Horizons players who may be looking for something a little less permanent.

Where to Find the Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit Recipe

Before players can even think about setting up a permanent ladder, they'll first need to get their hands on the Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit DIY recipe. Thankfully, this is an easy enough process, with players simply needing to make their way over to Nook's Cranny during business hours. There, in the store's cabinet, they'll find the recipe on sale for 2,000 Bells. After purchasing it, players can learn how to craft the item by selecting the recipe from their inventory and choosing the "learn" option.

How to Craft a Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit

The recipe for a Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit calls for a regular ladder and five pieces of wood. For those who don't already have it, the Ladder crafting recipe is given to players by Tom Nook as part of the game's tutorial or can be purchased from the cabinet in Nook's Cranny for 500 Bells. It requires four pieces of each type of wood, so the total cost of crafting a Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit is effectively eight pieces of wood, four pieces of hardwood, and four pieces of softwood.

How to Place a Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit

After crafting their Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit, players will be able to place it by selecting it from their inventory while standing near a cliff. They won't need to worry quite as much about there being space at the top of the incline as they would with a staircase, nor, as it turns out, should they be too concerned with selecting the perfect spot for their ladder while they are initially placing it.

How to Move a Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit

Unlike staircases — which can only be destroyed after they've been built — Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kits can be relocated. To do so, players simply need to press the Y button while standing in the vicinity of the Ladder, which will then return the item to their inventory. From there, they'll be able to put the Wooden Ladder Set-Up Kit into storage or can instead opt to place it somewhere new by selecting it from their inventory while standing in an appropriate spot.
