Angry Birds Space Fastest Growing Mobile Game

If there were still any who doubted that Rovio was capable of making lightning strike twice, the sales numbers revealed for their latest offering, Angry Birds Space should silence those skeptics for good. After more than 50 million downloads in the first 35 days, the agitated avian spacewalk hasn't just smashed the records set by its predecessor Angry Birds, but become the fastest growing mobile game ever.

To be honest these numbers shouldn't surprise, since mobile gamers made it immediately clear that they wanted to play Angry Birds Space more than any other game on Android or iOS. Just days after release the game rocketed to the top of sales charts ahead of apps which would normally have seemed to be runaway successes.

The developers at Rovio have done a great deal to silence those who claimed their game was merely a passing fad, but made it clear on their official site that the fans are the ones who deserve the credit:

"This has been simply amazing, and the whole Rovio team is thrilled to see such a fantastic reception for the game.

"We extend our deepest gratitude to all fans of Angry Birds everywhere. While numbers like this certainly say something about the popularity of Angry Birds, for us the main goal is to keep creating fun new experiences that everybody can enjoy!

"There's only one conclusion to draw: something even bigger is on its way! Stay tuned and keep flinging those Birds!"

The newest Angry Birds adventure may still have a long way to go to catch up to the original, but there's no reason to doubt its potential. After all, the game introduced several new mechanics and puzzles, proving that the minds at Rovio are, above all, reliable game-makers. And with a possible release on the PlayStation Vita, those numbers only have one direction to go.

It's hard to say what can be "even bigger" than space itself, but it's nice to hear that the team is already hard at work on the next project. How long can this developer manage to stay atop the ever-growing heap of mobile innovators? The first question that will have to be answered is exactly how high Angry Birds Space will soar over the coming months.

Have you downloaded your copy already? Are there any themes or game types that you would like to see Rovio tackle next?

Angry Birds Space is available for iOS, Android, PC and Mac now.
