Alan Wake 2 Is Going To Be ‘Very Weird’

Alan Wake has no doubt been one of the more interesting games this year (we enjoyed it) in terms of narrative and game mechanics. Yeah, using light as a weapon might sound kind of lame but, in the actual game, proved to be quite enjoyable.

There hasn’t been an official decision regarding a direct sequel for Alan Wake, but the plot is there, should there be one. That’s not stopping Remedy writer Mikko Rautalahti from airing his desire to work on another Alan Wake title.

Rautalahti, in an interview with CVG, expressed his thoughts:

“There will be more Alan Wake, if we have anything to say about it. It’s a bigger story than just one game, and we want to make it very weird and scary and wonderful. I’d like to say that if our offices were wiped off the face of the Earth and all you got was that first game it would work just fine as a standalone product.

I know some people don’t see it that way but it’s not intended as a huge cliffhanger, it’s an ending to that story. We have a very definite story arc and the weird and horrible things that happen to him, and what he needs to do in the end to put things right. Then he needs to do something else. We’ll get to that when the time comes.”

Certainly, the first title swept most gamers off their feet – especially in terms of narrative. Not to mention, Remedy has been and will continue to churn out DLC for the title in order to expand the stranger universe of Alan Wake even further.

I would love to see a sequel to the game that would improve upon any foibles that people found with the original title (we’re looking at you facial animation). But in case that doesn’t happen, Alan Wake stands on its own as a title that tried something a bit different and was mostly successful.

Alan Wake is available exclusively for the Xbox 360.

  1. When I first started playing the game I liked despite not being a fan of survival horror games this one was unique and actually had a lot of artistic merit and was the only horror game I’ve ever seen with a good story. Sadly though I never finished the game a little over half way through got repetitive and boring. It was fun and exciting at first but with every passion our that started to fade.

  2. So, if Remedy started developing the sequel right now, it should be ready by, what… 2016?

  3. I loved Alan Wake, and while the gameplay could become repetitive at times, I stayed immersed in it through to the end. I’m playing the first DLC right now, and would absolutely love for a sequel to come out.

  4. This game is one I would definitely love to see a sequel for. Hopefully they’ll follow the “Assassin’s Creed” sequel philosophy of “fix everything you had problems with so you can finally love it” more than Bioshock 2′s.

There just aren’t enough flashlights in games anymore!

  5. I just wish they would hurry the F up with Max Payne 3 already.

  6. This game is so exciting! It is the best game that I’ve ever played. The story is really good. And, at the end of it, we perceived that probably would be another game. But what is a mistery is the Mr. Scratch. We will see probably more about him in Alan Wake 2. Most impressive the game.

  7. @ Joey Victorio: Max Payne 3 is not being develop by Remedy but Rockstar. I absolutely love this game, because of is the immersive world and well written narrative. Repetitive hmmm I think most fps title like ehem CoD is run, gun, shoot yet nobody seems to complaint and its top of most gamers list. Probably as you grow older, the best escapism is a good storytelling.
