Resident Evil 6 Ada Wong Campaign and Agent Hunt Mode

For many gamers, Resident Evil 6 is one of the most highly-anticipated titles of 2012. Featuring three playable protagonists, co-op multiplayer, as well as improved gunplay and movement mechanics, Capcom has also promised that the horror-action title will deliver plenty of scares - not just explosions - when it lands on consoles later this year.

As the game's release draws closer, the developer is lifting the veil on more and more features that supplement the core story campaign. With over 30 hours of gameplay included in the package, there's little doubt that players are in store for the longest and most robust Resident Evil offering to date. New details suggest that not only does the franchise's staple "Mercenaries" mode return this round, Resident Evil 6 will also include several other bonus modes - including a post-game Ada Wong campaign and new "Agent Hunt" multiplayer that allows players to step into the shoes of some of the game's baddest monstrosities.

Following up on reports of a possible Resident Evil 6 campaign chapter dedicated to fan-favorite fem-fatale, Ada Wong, we're now getting word that the character will in fact be playable - and enjoy an exclusive single player-only adventure.

According to a report from Silliconera, players who complete the Chris, Leon, and Jake scenarios will gain access to an all-new Ada chapter. Story details are still under tight wraps but the covert operative will be armed with special weaponry - including a crossbow and time bombs. Additionally, unlike the three main story chapters, Ada's campaign is a solo mission and will not allow for a co-op friend to tag along.

Meanwhile, Famitsu offered-up new details on the "Agent Hunt" multiplayer mode - which allows multiple players to re-enter certain previously cleared levels and take control of the game's monsters. The "Agent Hunt" team will face off against other players who are controlling the game's normal protagonist characters. Details are still extremely scarce on this mode - so interested parties should definitely await further details.

A post-campaign Ada Wong mission shouldn't come as a surprise to players who enjoyed the Resident Evil 4 Director's Cut - which showed events from the final chapter in the game through the eyes of the infamous agent in the red dress. It's likely that the Resident Evil 6 Ada Wong mission will do something similar - though, hopefully, this time the developers will throw in some new areas for players to explore (the prior Ada mission primarily took place in areas that had already been cleared but with new weaponry and objectives).

It's harder to speculate about "Agent Hunt" right now - since, in the past, we've seen similar offerings fall flat on their face. Even the Gears of War 3 "Beast Mode," which provided a fun (but limited) distraction, was pretty thin in comparison to the much more robust co-operative "Horde Mode" and competitive multiplayer features. That said, Resident Evil 6 should provide a similarly thorough variety of creatures to control - and, considering there's a competitive element to the mode, could offer a more memorable experience than its predecessors.

No doubt, some Resident Evil die-hards might be getting nervous about the amount of added content in the RE6 package - since, as is often pointed out in reference to titles like Mass Effect 3, online features are very likely taking up resources that could have been used for an even longer and bug-free campaign experience. However, so long as Capcom delivers on all its promises (including the lengthiest single player/co-operative story mode in franchise history) then, even if the non-campaign content is underwhelming, fans will still have little reason to complain.
