I’m sure many of you who have played Mass Effect 2 were fortunate enough to have a complete save to import from Mass Effect 1. In addition, you may have seen a lot of your old decisions come back in the form of dialogue options or NPCs to interact with. What you didn’t see was the exact number of plot points carried over; A whopping 700 plot points were imported from ME2 according to BioWare lead cinematic designer, Armando Troisi, saying the “small things” mattered when you imported data from ME1.
This point was further demonstrated by Troisi via a video presentation showing how choices made early and late in the game of ME1 had impacts on ME2, specifically the gender chosen for Shepard and a choice regarding the Counsel (you know which one). In translation, that’s four decisions that affected your story in ME2.
I’ve played through ME2 several times and am working on beating it on Insanity. I remember the first time I played with my imported character, I was blown away by how many of my choices were also taken along. Combined with the extensive story branching already present in the ME1 and ME2, I can’t even imagine how many choices will carry over to the final game of the trilogy, Mass Effect 3.
Any thoughts of what you would like to see carry over? The small things that is, because the big choices seemed rather obvious this go around.

I thought ME 3 wasn’t going to be whit import from previous game.
I saved the Spider Queen instead of killing her, and in ME2 she sent me a message via a npc that told me that her race would be there to back us up when the reapers attack.
So don't kill the arachnid when you get the chance in ME1.
Hard to see the small things that could possibly carry over but they're nice surprises when you do notice the decisions being recognized. This is why I love these game so very much!
I hope that if you decide to have a relationship with Tali in ME2 that you will eventually see her face in ME3.
