Two masked, armed men rob a GameStop in Silver Spring, Maryland. A 7 year old customer at the store tries to fight back against the suspects by punching them.

GameStop has been in the news a lot lately, as just recently, the CEO confirmed new PS4 and Xbox One Hardware for E3 2016. However, the latest development that has put the gaming retail giant in the public spotlight has little to do with actual video games. Two armed suspects robbed a GameStop store in Silver Spring, Maryland, and during the robbery, one of the suspects was punched repeatedly by a 7 year old boy.

As seen by the store's surveillance footage, the two men, both wearing masks, enter the store and demand everyone to back against the wall. The boy defies their orders, instead opting to punch one of the gunman instead. The gunman drags the boy against the wall, and then the two men steal cash from the register as well as personal items from the store employees and customers. At the time of this writing, no arrests in the case have been made.

While it was brave of the boy to stand up to the robbers, at the same time, what he did was very dangerous. These were armed robbers, and it would have been best for the boy to follow their demands in the interest of his own safety. It's likely that the boy simply didn't fully appreciate the gravity of the situation at hand, and didn't realize what kind of danger he was in.

As video games have increased in popularity, it seems as though they have become a target for criminals. Besides this robbery at a GameStop in Silver Spring, Maryland, a man was arrested for urinating on video games in Target. Another man, this one in Tennessee, tried to steal video games from Walmart, and then when he was caught, proceeded to urinate on the floor.

While these acts certainly aren't laughing matters, at least firearms weren't involved in the Target and Walmart situations. At the end of the day, it's just good that no one was hurt despite the suspects being armed, and that the robbers didn't retaliate violently against the kid for his punches.

Hopefully the police in Silver Spring, Maryland are able to apprehend the suspects sooner rather than later. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see the public response to how the boy handled the situation at GameStop, and if he receives any sort of recognition from the company for being brave in an especially dangerous situation.
