With the announcement of a new X-Com game, 2K Games appears ready to make a name for themselves again.

That said, it looks like the studio might not know exactly what their official name is right now.

Is appears as though 2K Australia, previously known as Irrational Games, situated in Canberra, has been renamed 2K Marin. However, in Marin, there's already a 2K Marin - though, there's a solid 7,500 miles of ocean between the two studios.

Yeah, that makes sense, right?

2K explained the name change (or name copy, whatever you want to call it) like this:

"The Marin and Canberra studios worked together on Bioshock 2, and now on X-Com, and will continue for future productions."

The intention was to bind the names together so the studios could simply be called "2K Marin" - referring to both studios at once (since they were working on the same projects). So, 2K Australia, which was formerly Irrational Games, no longer exists, and is 2K Marin - alongside 2K Marin.

The company chose to favor the Marin name simply because 2K Marin was a more established studio, having had the majority of credits for Bioshock 2. 2k Australia, on the other hand, hadn't had a title release since Tribes: Vengeance in 2004.

So, we hope that clears up any confusion about 2K Marin, and also 2K Marin!

We're sure the people at the post office are going to love the change.
