Game Developers Choice Awards 2012

At this year’s 2012 Game Developers Conference the 12th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards will be presented to thousands of representatives from the gaming community. Many of the games nominated come as no surprise, but this is not the Spike Video Game Awards (see the Spike VGA 2011 winners here) and the outcome may be a little unexpected compared to the commercialism of Spike’s award show.

Portal 2, Skyrim, and Batman: Arkham City are just a few of the games (as expected) earned multiple nominations, but Uncharted 3 - even as acclaimed as it was – is not in the running for “Game of the Year.” Other titles with multiple nominations include L.A. Noire, Battlefield 3, and Bastion.

There are no limitations as to which games are nominated, and the winners will be selected by a group known as the International Choice Awards Network, an invitation-only committee housing 500 leading game creators from all over the industry.

The Game Developers Choice Awards committee will also be announcing its Special Award recipients before the ceremony, including honorees for the Pioneer, Ambassador and Lifetime Achievement Special Awards. There will also be a special reveal as to the identity of this year’s Game Developers Choice Awards host.

  1. Skyrim is getting Game of the Year for sure.

  2. Dark Souls, please. I have never loved a game as much as that. Ever.

  3. Though I’d say that Uncharted 3 will get best Visuals. Not gonna lie, that game looks like its real.

  4. I guess i’m one of the select few who think InFamous 2 is GOTY. It had a good story, it never got boring, and the endings were amazing. The only problem with the game is the moral system; it’s too black and white, there should be a gray area.
B:AC is good but it seemed like I was just going to a random villain, one after the other; also, I had the difficulty on the hardest, but it was still easy.
Skyrim wins GOTY on this list. This Game makes me mad because of the bugs, but I think spent more than 100 hours on this game.
Portal 2 and Deus Ex are okay.
I hate having to start all the way at the beginning of a level just because I die, so obviously I hate Dark Souls; I hated demon’s souls.

  5. Bioware should win, just ’cause they’re so doggone awesome.

  6. Glad the Witcher 2 got nominated for Best Narrative, although I believe it should be nominated for Best Visual Arts as well.

  7. I hereby put forth my usual cheerleading for Dark Souls to win everything. The more I play Skyrim, the more I think to myself, “Well, yeah, but it isn’t Dark Souls…”. I’ve been playing games for over 20 years and this game just simply grabbed hold of me like no other. Game of the year is probably asking too much, but Best Game Design should be a lock.

Nice to see someone remembering Dead Space 2. The atmosphere in the game was glorious and genuinely unnerving at 3am.

Nice categories, nice choices. Surprise me with the winners, please.

  8. Nice, The Developers patting each other in the back. I bet its a great way for them to network for future jobs and compliment each other in person on each others work…
